A law firm website needs one page per practice area, because that’s how clients search

Someone in Getafe gets a dismissal letter and searches “employment lawyer Getafe”. What your law firm website needs so that person decides to call you.

Written by Marco Ruiz on , revised

Someone who needs a lawyer opens Google and types "divorce lawyer Valencia" or "employment lawyer near me". The top map results get a large share of the calls, and if your firm isn't there, those clients go to another lawyer.

A profile on a lawyer directory isn't enough. You share the page with dozens of competitors, and the directory decides the design and the message. Your own website is where a potential client decides whether to call you or keep searching.

Why a law firm needs its own website

Most people who need a lawyer start on Google. Many compare several firms on their phone before asking friends. The lawyer with a clear website, practice areas well explained and an easy way to get in touch is more likely to get the call.

Picture it: someone in Getafe has just received a dismissal letter. They're anxious and want to know their rights now. They search "employment lawyer Getafe" on their phone. If your site shows up, loads fast and explains that you specialise in employment law, they call you. If a directory with 30 lawyers shows up, they call the first on the list.

Trust starts on your website. Before telling you their problem, a client wants to see that the firm is up to date. An outdated site that doesn't work on mobile makes them hesitate, and so does having no site at all.

You control the message. On a directory, every lawyer looks the same. On your website you decide what people see first, for example the practice area where you want more clients.

What a law firm website needs

Clearly defined practice areas. Family law, employment law, traffic accidents, property law, wills and estates. Each area with its own section and a clear explanation of the cases you handle. Clients search by their specific problem.

Initial consultation form. Many people feel uneasy calling a lawyer for the first time. A form ("tell us about your case and we'll reply within 24 hours") lowers that barrier.

Google Maps and office address. An embedded map, the full address and real photos of the office. This also helps local SEO: Google links your website to your physical location.

Clear office hours. "Monday to Friday 9:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00." Visible hours avoid calls at the wrong time.

Client reviews. Google reviews carry a lot of weight when someone compares firms. Between two similar lawyers, a client is more likely to choose the one with more reviews and a good rating. Ask every satisfied client for one.

Blog with legal articles. "How long does an uncontested divorce take?", "What severance pay am I entitled to?", "Who pays inheritance costs?" Lots of people type these questions into Google. If the answer is on your site, people who had never heard of your firm find you.

Visible WhatsApp button. In Spain almost everyone uses WhatsApp every day. Many potential clients prefer writing to calling, especially for sensitive matters like divorces or employment disputes.

A website for your firm with practice areas, consultation form and WhatsApp, from €349 one-off, or from €39/month with a monthly pack.

A directory can work as a supplement, but not as your main presence.

Local SEO for lawyers

Rank by practice area + town. The searches that bring real clients are specific: "divorce lawyer Zaragoza", "inheritance lawyer Marbella", "traffic accident lawyer Benidorm", "employment lawyer Alcalá de Henares". Your website needs a page for each main practice area that mentions your area naturally.

Keep your Google Business Profile complete. Every field: practice areas, hours, office photos, description. Reply to every review, positive or negative, politely. Post monthly updates: changes in the law, special hours. If you don't have time, that monthly work is what the Website + Google Pack covers.

Write content that answers real questions. "How much does a divorce cost in Spain?", "Can I claim an inheritance without a will?", "What if I'm dismissed while on sick leave?" These articles bring informational searches to your website; more on that at the end.

Structured data for law firms. With the right markup, Google understands that your site belongs to a law firm, where you are and what you do, and can show your address, hours and rating in the results.

Signs your firm needs a new website

  • You search "lawyer + your practice area + your town" on Google and don't appear
  • Your website is more than 5 years old and doesn't work well on mobile
  • There's no contact form or WhatsApp button
  • Your practice areas aren't clearly explained
  • You depend on paid directories for new clients
  • You have no Google reviews, or very few

If 3 or more apply, it's probably time for a new website.

A blog with the questions clients ask you

When someone searches "can I be dismissed while on sick leave?" and finds the answer on your site, they already know you. When they need an employment lawyer, they're likely to call the one who answered their question.

You don't need an article every week. Two or three a month on the questions clients ask you in consultations build a steady source of visits.
