Vet clinic website: what a dog owner needs to find at 11 pm

Someone with an iguana wants to know you treat it before calling. What a vet website needs: an emergency number on every page, species and online bookings.

Written by Marco Ruiz on , revised

When someone's dog is vomiting at 11 pm, the first thing they do is search Google for "emergency vet near me". If your clinic doesn't appear among the first results, that person calls someone else, and may never come to your practice.

For a vet clinic, the website often decides whether pet owners in your area choose you or another clinic, because they're trusting you with an animal that, for many, is part of the family.

Why pet owners research so much

Many owners read reviews and visit the clinic's website before calling, with very specific questions:

  • Do they offer 24-hour emergencies?
  • Do they treat my type of pet?
  • Can I see the facilities?
  • Who are the vets and what experience do they have?
  • What do other owners say?

If your website doesn't answer these quickly, that owner looks for another clinic.

What a vet clinic website needs to turn visits into appointments

An emergency number visible from the first second

If you offer emergencies, it has to be the first thing visitors see: a fixed banner with the emergency number on every page. An owner who arrives worried at 3 am won't hunt for a number in the footer.

Services organised by species

Show services by animal type (dogs, cats, exotics): someone with an iguana wants to know you treat it before calling. Add guide prices, for example "Dog vaccination from €X" or "Cat neutering from €X". That builds more trust than a line saying "veterinary services".

Appointment form with species

Many owners want to request an appointment at night or at the weekend. Without a form, those requests are lost. Keep it short: owner's name, pet's name, species, reason and preferred date.

Online appointments that go straight into your diary, with automatic WhatsApp reminders, come with the website with online bookings or appointments: from €700 one-off, depending on how many services, vets and opening hours it needs. With monthly payment, they're part of the All-in-one Pack. If you already use a booking tool, I connect it to your website and Google profile, from €79.

Real photos of the facilities

Owners want to see where their animal will be: operating theatre, hospital area, laboratory, grooming room. Real photos reduce the fear of the unknown.

The team with photo and speciality

Each vet with name, photo, speciality and years of experience. "Internal medicine and older pets, 15 years in the town" says more than "our team of professionals".

Reviews that mention the pet

At a vet clinic, the useful reviews tell a story: what happened to the animal and how the clinic responded. Show your real Google reviews on the website.

A clinic website with the emergency number on every page, services by species and an appointment form from €349 one-off, or from €39/month with a monthly pack.

Example demo: Veterinaria Huellas

I've built a demo for a fictional vet clinic, Veterinaria Huellas, so you can see how all this works. It's an example, not a real client:

View the Veterinaria Huellas demo

The demo includes:

  • 24-hour emergency banner fixed at the top with a direct phone number
  • Services by species: dogs, cats and exotics with guide prices
  • Facilities gallery: operating theatre, laboratory, X-ray, hospital area, grooming
  • Team: each vet with photo, speciality and experience
  • Sample reviews with the pet's name (on your site, your real clients' reviews would go here)
  • Appointment form with species and reason
  • Floating WhatsApp button
  • Map and opening hours

Local SEO for vet clinics

"Vet in [town]"

Many searches include the town or neighbourhood: "vet in Getafe", "veterinary clinic Marbella", "emergency vet Costa Blanca". Your website has to be ready for those exact combinations.

How: a home page that mentions your location naturally, veterinary structured data and a complete Google Business Profile with recent photos and reviews answered. The profile is set up in all my packs; monthly management and replies to reviews are part of the Website + Google Pack from €59/month.

"Emergency vet [area]"

Whoever searches "emergency vet near me" needs a vet right now, so these searches often end in a call. If you appear, you can win a client who may stay for routine visits.

You need a dedicated emergency section, the emergency banner on every page and content explaining what to do in a pet emergency.

Searches by species and service

"Exotic vet Sevilla", "dog vaccine price", "cat neutering cost". Each service and species combination can have its own page or section and bring visits your competitors may not be aiming for.

Signs your clinic's website needs work

  • You don't appear on Google when you search "vet" + your town
  • There's no online appointment form
  • The emergency number isn't clearly visible
  • Services aren't organised by animal type
  • There are no real photos of the facilities or the team
  • The website takes more than 3 seconds to load on mobile
  • You don't show real client reviews

If 3 or more apply, the website needs rework.
